Karly W - Homeschool Tutor In Chicago IL - Local or Online

I am extremely passionate about recognizing each student's opportunity to learn and grow every day, both intellectually and personally. In order to be an excellent teacher, it is imperative to develop strong, supportive relationships with each student. I genuinely enjoy getting to know each student as an individual; I need to know what they love, what they hate, and what motivates them to offer an authentic learning environment. I come to work everyday with a coffee in hand, positive energy, and motivation to help students succeed. As an English teacher, I am skilled at meeting with students one-on-one to identify gaps and create goals for growth. I strive to give individual supports to students and differentiate to meet a students' needs. I strongly believe that with motivation, support, and guidance any student can exceed expectations. I am someone who will always do best by my students, and I am committed to researching or discovering new teaching strategies to best fit the needs of my students.

Experience

I am a graduate of Bradley University with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary English Education. I have taught a variety of classes for 3 1/2 years including English, Broadcasting, Journalism, Teen Fiction, Creative Writing, and Academic Support. In my most recent position, I taught 6th grade, 8th grade, 9th grade, and 10th grade English. At a high school I taught at for 2 years, we had an Excel class at the end of the day, and I helped students with their homework in multiple content areas. I also worked with children ages 6-12 at a day care called Bright Horizons for a few months during the summer. Since I was teaching online in a high school in the spring and fall, I have experience with Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams, and other applications for online instruction. I can pick-up and learn technological tools quickly. I specialize in English (reading and writing), but I am able to help students stay organized and get their work done in other classes as well. Staying organized and developing a strategy for completing work is essential during these times of online learning. I am currently following COVID safety measures and will wear a mask and take my temperature before coming in each day. I still see some family and friends. I am available to meet on Zoom. Best wishes!
