Hello! My name is Peter and I am a journalist who loves to teach on the side! I love reading/writing, history, and being outdoors! I’m a total movie buff and love relating things in the classroom back to movies kids have seen and love. This year I returned from teaching English abroad in Bulgaria and I would love to help students with social studies, reading comprehension and writing, math, or music! In my free time I love to ski, backpack, write, and play music. I love keeping teaching interesting by figuring out what kids are interested in and teaching lessons through that lens! I would love to find one or two families who need consistent tutoring a few afternoons/evenings a week.
Experience
I have lots of experience working with kids and young adults. I am a graduate of Hamilton College class of 2019 with a degree in History and an interest in journalism. Last year I taught English as a Second Language (ESL) in Bulgaria for the American University in Bulgaria. I mostly taught kids between 2nd and 8th grade, although I also taught a few classes of highschoolers. I always try to keep the curriculum interesting by adding things that my students are interested in as I teach. Before that, I worked at the first American-style summer camp in Istanbul Turkey. There, I taught ESL, fencing classes, and a few music classes. As the COVID crisis started back here in the U.S., I started working for VIP Kid, an online ESL platform for young Chinese kids to learn English. I currently work for an anti-corruption and whistleblowing publication based out of Washington D.C.
