Andrea J - Homeschool Tutor In Silver Spring MD - Local or Online

Hi, there! I love kids, by the way; I'm a big kid at heart! I think that both learning and teaching are great because life is about growing each and every day. Having fun, while using your head, makes studying that much better! Some hobbies that I enjoy are riding my bike and playing chess. I'm a student, too, studying Project Management and Negotiation. Why would I choose these, you might ask? Well, I like the challenge of proving that I can learn things that scare me. Then I find that challenges aren't so scary after all! I hope that we have the opportunity to team up to put new material, concepts and ideas into our craniums! Corny? Absolutely! Well, at least learning with me won't be boring! Thanks! Andrea

Experience

Having come from generations of teachers, who have taught in public schools and university, I know the importance of education. My schooling did not lead me to teach, but so many people ask if do or if I counsel. Perhaps my background in hospitality management has given me particular skills, which might give those impressions. I understand that all humans are unique, which is why I was chosen in several positions to be the trainer or training manager. I have the ability to tap into finding the best way to make material viable. I graduated from St. Timothy's School (Stevenson, MD) and The American Academy of Dramatic Arts (NYC). I’ve studied Business and Marketing at FIT (Melbourne, Florida) through their bachelor’s degree program, online. Having been out of school for many years, this university required that I take English, Math, History and Science. For the majority of the program, I retained a 4.0 GPA, while working in my field. I mentor through REACH, an incredible platform for college and career prep, amongst other offerings, currently facilitated online. (I am able to participate because of my DCPS Employment Clearance.) My amazing mentee, Riley, and I have a formed a great relationship where I support her on her high school journey, as her goal is to beat this pandemic, get to college and be an Events Planner in Hospitality. It's an honor to work with her! I would welcome the opportunity to talk about how I can be of service as a tutor. I can be trusted to keep children safe and have a huge capacity for love, which is something that's needed in the world, right now. Regardless of race, creed, religion, orientation or political stance, I am respectful and supportive of people's right to be and learn.
